1. Open shelving in the kitchen may look splendid in pictures, but for everyday use, it proves to be rather impractical. Unless you have a matching set of dishes and cups that you are willing to display all the time, it becomes a challenge to keep everything looking neat and organized. Moreover, dust can easily accumulate on items that are not frequently used, and if you happen to have a feline companion, that open shelf becomes an irresistible temptation for them.

2. Expensive, spacious houses lacking in storage, particularly with a conspicuous absence of a closet in the entryway. This deficiency poses a significant challenge for homeowners seeking an organized and clutter-free living environment. Without adequate storage solutions, it becomes difficult to neatly stow away belongings upon entering the home, affecting the overall aesthetic and functionality of these high-end properties.
3. Our light fixtures are absolutely massive, with Edison-style bulbs that emit an intense brightness, almost to the point of being overwhelming. We affectionately refer to them as the Jesus Light, and to add a touch of enchantment, we’ve included a dimmer switch that allows it to flicker gently.

4. Microwaves nestled within lower cabinets can pose challenges for individuals with children or limited mobility. As someone who personally struggles to comfortably retrieve items from such a height, I can empathize with older individuals who may encounter similar difficulties when using a microwave at this level. Moreover, this setup also creates an opportunity for children to inadvertently place inappropriate items inside the microwave, which can lead to potential mishaps.

5. Shower rooms, where the tub is inside the shower glass. The accumulation of dirt and grime that you notice on your shower walls is bound to affect your tub as well, necessitating a thorough cleaning of both every time you clean your shower, regardless of whether you’ve taken a bath or not. Moreover, have you ever considered the mold that thrives behind the freestanding tub, sitting a mere 2 or 3 inches away from the wall? It’s safe to say that it’s far from being a brilliant concept.
6. The rise of outlets inside drawers is undeniably frustrating. Need to use a blender on your kitchen island? Imagine having to open a drawer to plug it in, only to find the drawer obstructing your workspace, risking spills and mishaps.
7. The open floor plan trend has been a constant struggle. The overpowering odor of food that lingers throughout the entire house has always been a major concern. It’s incredibly frustrating when even a simple dish like salmon can leave my couch smelling like fish for days on end. The quest for a new place has proven to be extremely difficult as finding separate kitchens has become a rare find.
8. Placing laundry (and laundry closets) in the kitchen tends to be highly impractical, as it involves carrying soiled garments into a space that is dedicated to cleanliness and hygiene.

9. Fireplace “chimneys” for faux fireplaces, concealed beneath artificial siding, are disheartening. The question arises: why resort to such deception? If installing a genuine fireplace is not feasible, it is best to forgo the illusion of a chimney.

10. Pot lights. Avoid the clutter of multiple pot lights scattered across the ceiling by opting for a single elegant light fixture that exudes sophistication and style. Embrace the power of simplicity and transform your space into a refined oasis with a focal point that commands attention. Say goodbye to the excessive glare and welcome an ambiance that is both inviting and aesthetically pleasing.

11. Farmhouse sinks present a significant challenge. Their flat bottoms make it difficult for water to drain efficiently, resulting in the excessive use of 10 gallons of water just for cleaning.

12. Two-toned kitchens — where the top cabinets and bottom cabinets are different colors, or the island is a different color or finish from the rest of the cabinetry. Although some may find this style unappealing.

13. It’s disheartening how new builds these days tend to overlook the presence of trees. The absence of tree-lined streets and greenery in the neighborhood makes it feel empty and gloomy. With a little more attention and consideration, developers could integrate existing trees into their plans, ultimately creating a more vibrant and inviting atmosphere for the homeowners. It’s a shame to imagine living in a treeless environment; I would much rather renovate an older home than endure such barren surroundings.
14. Freestanding tubs that require cleaning in those hard-to-reach areas behind them.

15. Roughly textured kitchen backsplash tiles and stones may be visually appealing, but the real question is: how do you maintain their cleanliness when you’re actually cooking? This is where our deliberate choice of textured yet glossed subway tile comes into play. Not only is it charming, but it also offers the convenience of effortless cleaning. In fact, this is one of the factors that contribute to the widespread popularity and enduring presence of subway tiles.
